Der Ohlsen "Imagine a Technical Death Metal band playing the show of their lives, but the audience consists of Folk musicians, ex-Rock stars from the 70's, a Jazz posse, Ambient hooligans and two competing Chamber music gangs, who all instead of just enjoying the performance constantly try to out-heckle each other by grabbing mics or plugging in their instruments."

Peering between frosted metal and stone Men lined up to the rope The long darkness lingers Enshrouding what’s left of our hope In the night, the din of ringing gallows Flutters through the air like a flock The bitter air bites the hallows As their necks hang by the stocks Ghastly vengeance upon us who wield the sword Floundering to make sense of any word Our deeds are done, and so must it be A bloodthirsty end, for all will see Peering through frosted metal and stone Glints of light drift from a pale sun sky So many men, prostrated and prone Desperation flooding their eyes Northern wind blows furious through the air Life is wilting, death in full bloom (The) encroaching darkness has come early And so has my doom Beaten, dazed, and herded to the stage Emasculated and parsed in four Beloved forced to watch, filling with a noxious rage Cyclical nightmare restored, spreading as a weeping sore Ghastly vengeance upon us who wield the sword Floundering to make sense of any word [Our deeds are done, and so must it be A bloodthirsty end, for all will see] Beaten, dazed, and herded to the stage Emasculated and parsed in four Beloved forced to watch, filling with a noxious rage Cyclical nightmare restored, spreading as a weeping sore (Solo: Torres) Northern wind blows furious through the air Life is wilting, death in full bloom (The) encroaching darkness has come early And so has my doom (Solo: Hart)

A Stain 11:38
(Solo: Hart) Lids sag heavy, encumbered by distrust Faces contort with disgust Living evil, driven by greed and lust Leaving our humanity hollow, a shell, a putrid husk Last remnants trapped within the desiccated, flaking, crust Quash any remnant of hope Hang the bodies by a rope Struggling through with a blind grope Struck to the ground, boot to throat Nothing more than a stain to soap Hands grasp out, upward to the sky Reach for mercy, believe the lies Wickedness incarnate Dressed in a suit and tie (Solo: Torres) Hatred wreathing ‘round a corrupted heart Constricting, suffocating, killing what we once were (Solo: Juarez) (Solo: Hart) (Solo: Torres x2) Violence enveloping a depraved mind We’ve done away with all things pure Struck to the ground, boot to throat They’re nothing but a stain to soap A stain that dyes the whole of the world A strain that dries decrepit, rotten, and curled (Solo: Hart)

Eyes ensnared, Blind sight’s despair, Watch and Wait, without a care Lives are seized as common fare Sights and sounds of ill profound All televised before my eyes Silent cries of victims lie Face down in the muck, defiled (Solo: Torres) The tragedy of life around me, A fever dream or reality? Bones cast in iron within Burden the waking sin (Solo: Van Bodegom-Smith/ Hoetzer, Torres, Hart) Compressed in a timeless vacuum Affection a hindrance A burdensome charge Love flakes away, as stone from ancient statue Then dissolving to nothing My only protection, my only targe Forever on my own, that I may roam For the chamber of the void beckoning me home (Solo: Srikoetkhruen)

Sepsis of sin Fetid our kin Odorous heat unyielding Flesh from bone, left peeling Den of disease Your pain made to please Leeches sucking you dry You sing their battle cry Eyes unopened to truth Left to graze without mercy All’s gone, nothing left to soothe Sight still strays from all our heresy Gnashing at the throat of yearning Putrid wounds pulsing and pursing Bottled and caged Your mind but a stage Ignore the screams of the damned Lick the shit from my hand Be a good slave Cradle to grave Sacrifice your eyes to the screen Consume away your hopes and your dreams Those lost the guardians shant mourn And the self-caged souls From rebirth shall be torn (Solo: Torres, Hoetzer) Those who rule by suit, fence and gun Shall rot in the Hell They so treacherously won Those left will see through the guise And the willfully blind Inherit their fecal prize Eyes ensnared, Blind sight’s despair, Watch and Wait, without a care Tragedy or Normality? Billions blind to their slavery - (Solo: Srikoetkhruen, Hart, Torres, Srikoetkhruen) Those who could rise to the call The seers amidst the throng The spirits carried on Those who would fight to break the chains Kill your masters Destroy their game (Solo: Kanasevich) Those who will stand before the Gate May they return With an open fate

As promising as their debut EP was, the evolution that FLESHVESSEL have gone through is unbelievable. Starting from an avant-garde death metal base, with "Yearning: Promethean Fates Sealed" they transform into a formidable progressive metal machine able to break down any fence between genres. The basic fuel is always extreme metal, often with a death metal orientation, but the instrumentation has been enriched with acoustic guitars, viola, piano, flute, ocarina, harp, glockenspiel and trumpet, greatly expanding FLESHVESSEL's sound spectrum and pushing the music towards ambitious goals.
The transition between furious black/death metal and magniloquent progressive/symphonic scores is sudden but perfectly coherent, a sign of the degree of maturity reached by the band, which sounds like the absurd cross between Phlebotomized, Kayo Dot and Van der Graaf Generator.

Wrapped in a stunning cover painting by Carlos Agraz, "Yearning: Promethean Fates Sealed" is essentially a record about humanity's struggle against itself in seeking out the betterment of our world. "We all know Prometheus as the Titan who stole the gods' fire and brought it to humanity," FLESHVESSEL explain, "and was thus punished for his betrayal. The album title uses this well known myth as an allegory for humanity's seeking of enlightenment, creating a better, more accepting world, and the fight against itself to reach that goal." An overarching theme that is viewed through various lenses throughout the album, such as those of the cyclical nature of war, class conflicts, manipulation, and personal mental struggles.

"Ultimately there is no Titan that will come to save us, lift us up from the grime and dirt," FLESHVESSEL conclude. "It has to come from within ourselves to unseal our fates, and open our hearts and minds to goodness."
